Reflection
The developmental Standards go beyond just helping and teaching our students. These standards are a way to make sure that we understand how important it is to understand our students and understand how to aid them to the best of our ability for the best possible outcome. Teaching isn't just solely about teaching subject matter and hoping our students can understand and pass a test. Teaching is a far more complex profession. To become a teacher is to do things for our students such as help them develop, help them achieve their goals, understand their individual needs and learning processes, and to provide them with a productive, well-managed and sage learning environment. Providing all of these things for our students is a complicated and in depth process that is not necessarily easy.
One of the weaknesses that I have now is understanding how to manage a class with a large gap in a range of abilities. It is my goal to understand and meet the needs for every single student in my future classroom. However it is still a problem for many teachers to attend to each student. Some students learn faster than others and some students need more help than others. Having said that, it is not to say that those students who learn fast can be ignored. For me, this is the biggest issue that teachers face. My goal is to come up with a system in my future classroom that allows me to help those in need and to aid those who do not necessarily need my help but to push them and challenge them. To reach this goal I will be taking steps such as taking a course in learning disabilities or taking a course on high ability youth. I could also take a course in other classroom management styles. My next goal is to never stop learning and trying new things to help my students. It is important for me to grow as a teacher every chance I get and make my future classroom the most productive that it can be. Applying what I know about different types of students and different strategies will be an ongoing and continuously improving action. To achieve this goal I will join a professional organization and attend conferences regularly to continue improving my skills. I will also work and collaborate with my coworkers and use them to help me continue to grow. Lastly, my goal is to stay open and optimistic for my students and continue to set an example. Not only will i help them become better and better at the French language but I plan on helping them through life decisions any way that I possibly can.
